Why You Will Love This Chicken Thighs with Honey and Soy Sauce

  • Quick and Easy: A fast staple meal for busy nights.
  • One-Pan: Cooks in one skillet for easy cleanup.
  • Balanced Flavors: Honey and soy create the perfect sweet-salty mix.
  • Meal Prep Friendly: Leftovers reheat well for lunches or dinners.

Ingredients

These simple ingredients build the base, and you can easily swap a few to make the recipe your own.

Chicken Thighs with Honey Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Low Sodium Soy Sauce: Standard soy sauce works well too.
  • Boneless Chicken Thighs: Cook faster than bone-in.
  • Vegetable or Chicken Broth: Use whichever broth you prefer.

For this simple weeknight dinner you'll want to have on hand a large enamelled cast iron skillet, tongs, small bowl and whisk. Also, with any meat dish you should use an instant-read thermometer, we love the Thermapen by ThermoWorks.

Substitutions and Variations

This recipe is flexible; here are some easy swaps and variations to try.

  • Gluten-Free: Use certified gluten-free soy sauce or Tamari.
  • Chicken Swap: Bone-in thighs or thin chicken breasts also work.
  • Maple Syrup: Swap for honey; cook longer for a thicker glaze.
  • Spice It Up: Add hot honey, red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
  • Thicker Glaze: Reduce the broth during simmering for a sticky sauce.

How to Make Chicken Thighs with Honey

With just a few simple steps, you will love how quick and easy it is to make these chicken thighs with honey.

Make homemade honey garlic sauce by whisking in a small bowl and set aside.

In a large skillet heat chicken broth on medium heat. Add boneless thighs once the broth starts to bubble and cook for about 5 minutes per side.

Drizzle all but ¼ cup of the honey sauce and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 5-10 minutes or until sauce reaches desired thickness and the chicken is cooked through (note: if you prefer a sticky honey garlic sauce remove about 1 ½ cups broth from the recipe or add extra honey).

Hint: Once the sauce is added, reduce heat to keep a rolling boil, too high and you can burn the honey.

How to Store Chicken Thighs with Honey and Soy Sauce

Got leftovers? These storage tips will help you keep your honey chicken tasty for days.

  • Refrigerator: Once cooled, place chicken thighs and any sauce in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
  • Freezer: Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and foil to prevent freezer burn and they can last up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat on the stove over medium low heat until heated throughout. Add a little stock if needed.

What to Serve with Chicken Thighs with Honey

Sweet and savory chicken is easy to dress up, here are some favorite sides to make it a full meal.

  • Simple Sides: Idahoan mashed potatoes, cornbread, cauliflower mash, maple bacon Brussels sprouts.

Top Tips

These tricks make all the difference, don’t skip them!

  • Check Temperature: Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165F.
  • Simmer for Glaze: Let the sauce reduce a few extra minutes for a thicker, sticky honey glaze.
  • Balance the Flavors: Taste the sauce, add a splash of soy sauce for saltiness or extra honey for sweetness if needed.
  • Rest Before Serving: Let the chicken sit for a few minutes so juices redistribute and the glaze sets.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chicken Thighs with Honey and Soy Sauce

Do I have to use boneless skinless chicken thighs?

No. If you don’t have boneless, skinless thighs, chicken breasts work just as well and taste just as delicious. Pound them to equal thickness for a more even cook.

Can I make the sauce spicier?

Absolutely. Add hot honey, red pepper flakes or a splash of hot sauce for extra heat.

      ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Perfectly Sweet and Savory!"

This honey-glazed chicken thigh recipe is an absolute winner! The combination of tender, juicy chicken thighs with the perfect balance of sweet honey and savory seasonings makes every bite irresistible. The honey caramelizes beautifully, creating a deliciously sticky glaze that coats the chicken in rich, golden goodness.

I loved how easy it was to prepare—just a few simple ingredients, and the result was restaurant-quality! The skin was crispy on the outside while the meat stayed incredibly moist and flavorful. I paired it with roasted veggies and garlic mashed potatoes, and it was a hit with my whole family.

If you're looking for a dish that's both comforting and impressive, this is it! Definitely adding this to my regular dinner rotation.
