Ingredients

With just 4 ingredients, you'll be ready to whip up this patriotic dessert in no time.

Red White Blue Fruit Cups Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Heavy Cream: Used to make whipped cream.
  • Icing Sugar: The sweet factor in the homemade whipped cream.
  • Fresh Strawberries: A fresh, sweet, and "patriotic red" fruit. You can substitute this for any favorite red option to keep them patriotic.
  • Fresh Blueberries: A tart and "patriotic blue" fruit.

For this delicious dessert recipe, you'll want to have on hand a stand mixer with whisk attachment or a hand mixer and large bowl, a spatula, measuring cups and spoons and 9-ounce serving cups.

Variations

  • Use Cool Whip: Make this simple dessert even easier by buying Cool Whip instead of making it from scratch.
  • Whipped Cream Swap: Swap the whipped cream for Greek yogurt for a tangy, protein-packed alternative or pudding (we like to mix it with whipped cream to lighten it up).
  • Cream Cheese: Add a couple ounces of softened cream cheese to the mixer and put a cheesecake spin on the whipped cream.
  • Chocolate Drizzle: Add a touch of decadence with a light drizzle of melted chocolate on top.
  • Double It: Make a big batch and double everything, whether you want to make more or put them in larger bowls this recipe is so easy to customize.

How to Make Red, White, and Blue Fruit Cups

Check out how easy it is to make this sweet treat.

Red White Blue Fruit Cups Being Made

In the bowl of a stand mix (or a large bowl with a hand mixer) add heavy cream and icing sugar and run on medium speed for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on it around the 8-minute mark, it will be done when you have stiff peaks. Taste and add more icing sugar as desired. Set aside.

Fill your first container with about ⅓ cup strawberries, ½ cup whipped cream, and ½ cup of blueberries. Repeat with the remaining 3 cups.

If desired, top with an additional dollop of whipped cream and a strawberry.

Hint: For the best results, use a cold mixing bowl when making whipped cream. If your bowl doesn't fit in your fridge, you can add very cold water and some ice and leave it for 5-10 minutes, then dry and use.

Recipe Tips

  • Taste and Adjust: Add more icing sugar if you prefer a sweeter whipped cream.
  • Use Fresh, Ripe Berries: The fresher the fruit, the better the flavor and texture.
  • Serve Immediately: This easy dessert is best enjoyed fresh to keep the whipped cream fluffy and the fruit vibrant.
  • How to Travel with Them: These are perfect to bring to summer barbecues or summer picnics! I like to place my cups in a baking dish to prevent them from falling over during transport. If you have extra space, you can make a grid with masking tape or add some tea towels in between to fill the gaps.
