Preheat oven to 375F and lightly spray a 9x13 baking dish. Set aside.
Make your Big Mac sauce by combined all the ingredients into a small bowl and stir well.
Add ground meat to a large pan over medium heat until almost fully cooked.
Drain excess grease, then add onion, garlic powder, salt and pepper and cook for another 5 minutes.
Transfer cooked beef mixture to prepared casserole dish, spread about ½ the sauce (or more) on top of the meat mixture, then top with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
Place a single layer of frozen tater tots over top of the shredded cheese. Bake in preheated oven, uncovered, for 35-40 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
Add the remaining cheese to the top of the casserole and bake for another 3-5 or until you have melty cheese.
Cool slightly, then garnish with lettuce, pickles and onions if desired. Drizzle remaining Big Mac sauce and sesame seeds to get the full sandwich experience.
- Don’t Skip the Sauce: The Big Mac sauce is what brings the whole dish together. For additional flavor you can add some into the ground meat mixture as well.
- Bake Uncovered: Baking uncovered ensures the tater tots get golden and crispy.
- Strain Beef: Removing excess grease prevents a soggy casserole.
- Layer Cheese: Layering the cheese gives you gooey pockets of cheese throughout the casserole.
- Cool Before Topping: Lettuce and pickles are best added once the dish has cooled slightly.
- Refrigerator: Once cooled, place in the fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days.
- Freezer: Alternatively, you can place it in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
- Reheating: To reheat, cooking times may vary. Warm in an oven-safe dish at 350F until heated through or reheat in the air fryer with a liner until warmed.
