If you’ve ever found yourself going back for seconds of the famous Costco Pecan Pie, you’re not alone—and now you can make a version of it at home. This pecan pie recipe is rich, gooey, and loaded with that signature caramel-like filling and toasty pecans, all tucked into a buttery, flaky crust. It’s big, bold, and just the right amount of sweet—perfect for holiday tables, potlucks, or any time you’re craving a slice of comfort.

Costco Pecan Pie on a Pie Server

Crunchy meets sweet in this delectable pie, with my buttery, flaky Crisco Pie Crust, you will be so happy you skipped the line!

What is Costco Pecan Pie?

Pecan pie is a classic dish that originated in the United States in the late 19th century. It is often credited to Patti’s Restaurant in Grand Rivers, Kentucky. A sweet and succulent dish is a delicious flaky crust with a beautiful filling that had diners begging for more. I have created my own riff on the store-bought version carried at Costco stores across the continent. I have worked to simplify the recipe so you can enjoy this sweet treat without any membership fees or long waits in lines at the shop.

Why You Will Love Costco Pecan Pie

  • Quick and Simple: You will be pleasantly surprised by how quickly this pie comes together.
  • Easy (as Pie): With just a few simple steps, you'll have the pie in the oven before you know it.
  • Taste and Texture: The sweet, buttery, caramel filling balances the crunchy bite of the pecans.
  • Tradition: A classic pie recipe that will quickly become a staple on your dinner table.

Ingredients

Most of the ingredients are things you will find in your pantry to bring this dish together. A combination of white and dark brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, salt, eggs, vanilla extract and, of course, pecans, are all it takes to whip up this impressive and tasty dessert.

Costco Pecan Pie (Copycat) Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Pie Crust: A flaky base is imperative to this dish. Our Crisco Pie Crust recipe is simple and quick but store-bought will work just as well.
  • Golden Corn Syrup: The perfect addition of sweetness and stickiness to create the filling.
  • Granulated Sugar: Adds sweetness and moisture to your filling.
  • Unsalted Butter: Offers a more neutral flavor, but salted works too.
  • Dark Brown Sugar: A deeper molasses profile that adds the perfect amount of warm sweetness.
  • Sea Salt: Elevates all the ingredients in the pie.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract: A concentrated vanilla flavor intensifies the overall pie.
  • Large Eggs: A binding ingredient to bring your filling together.
  • Pecans: You can’t have pecan pie without pecans.

For this recipe, you'll want to have on hand 9-inch pie dish, a rolling pin (if you are making your own crust), parchment paper for pies and pie weights, measuring cups and spoons, medium mixing bowl, spatula and a cooling rack.

Substitutions and Variations

Do you want to make this recipe a different way? Check out a few of my recommended variations for creating a different delicious dessert.

  • Gluten Free: Just use your favorite pie crust recipe to make this a simple gluten free dessert.
  • Dairy Free: Use your vegan butter of choice to make this recipe dairy free.
  • Maple Syrup: This is a great option if you do not have corn syrup on hand. You can substitute it for a 1:1 ratio.
  • Walnuts: Whether you were to swap the pecans fully for walnuts or a mix of both, this is a great alternative of this nutty flavor.

How to Make My Costco Pecan Pie

Check out how quick and easy it is to make this Pecan Pie.

Costco Pecan Pie Filling being Made in a Mixing Bowl
Costco Pecan Pie Being made into unbaked pie crust

Preheat oven to 425F. If using our homemade pie crust, lightly flour a surface and roll dough out ⅛” thick, and lay the dough into a 9-inch pie dish leaving about ¾” overhang, fold the overhang so the pie edge stands up, then crimp the edges. Add parchment paper, pie weights and pre-bake for 5-10 minutes. If using store-bought, thaw pie crusts based on package instructions, and pre-bake the same way.

In a medium mixing bowl add corn syrup, granulated sugar, melted butter (slightly cooled), dark brown sugar, salt and vanilla, and mix well with a spatula until all the butter is absorbed.

Add eggs and mix until fully combined. Then add chopped pecans and mix to incorporate.

Pour into pie crust and top with pecan halves.

Bake for 10 minutes and then reduce the heat to 350F. Bake for another 30-35 minutes (if the center should be slightly jiggly and will set as it cools) and allow it to cool on a wire rack.

Hint: Always be sure to allow adequate time for your pie to cool. This allows the filling to truly set up making for a beautiful slice that will hold up once cut.

How to Store Costco Pecan Pie

If you have somehow managed to have leftovers of your Pecan Pie then don’t worry as you can easily store it for future enjoyment.

  • Refrigerator: Once cooled, place in an airtight container and store for up to 5 days.
  • Freezer: Wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheating: Bring to room temperature or reheat in the microwave, oven, or air fryer to desired temperature. Room temperature or warm is the best way to serve pecan pie!
  • Make Ahead: This filling is so quick to whip together, but you can make 1-2 days in advance, but it will thicken. You will want to bring it to room temperate and spoon into your pre-baked pie crust, or warm it up on low on the stove top. Baking time may need to be adjusted slightly depending on your method.

What to Serve with Costco Pecan Pie

  • Coffee or Tea: Hot beverages go well with most desserts. We would highly recommend trying it with our Caramel Mocha Coffee.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream: The vanilla flavor and the cool contrast of ice cream complements the warm pecans.
  • Salted Caramel Ice Cream: Enhances the caramel flavors of the pie.

Top Tip

Place the pie on or just under the centre rack in the oven. This will help keep the bottom crust crispy while not rushing the cook of the filling. But most importantly, keep an eye on the pie to make sure the filling is still moving slightly.

Frequently Asked Questions About Making a Costco Pecan Pie

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about Costco Pecan Pie.

How do you know when Pecan Pie is done?

When looking at the pie, you can carefully give it a little shake. If the whole pie moves it is not yet done, but if the center (about half the pie diameter) of the air wiggles it is done and will set up as it cools.

Do you need to refrigerate Pecan Pie?

Yes, it is recommended. Place cooled pie in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge.

How long does Pecan Pie last?

Place cooled pie in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the fridge. In the freezer, you can keep it for up to 3 months if sealed properly.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425F. Reduce heat to 350F and bake for 40-50 minutes.
  • In a medium-large mixing bowl add corn syrup, granulated sugar, melted butter (slightly cooled), dark brown sugar, salt and vanilla, and mix well with a spatula until all the butter is absorbed.
  • Add eggs and mix until fully combined, then add chopped pecans.
  • Pour into pie crust and top with pecans (alternatively, you can mix them into the filling).
  • Bake for 10 minutes and then reduce the heat to 350F. Bake for another 40-50 minutes (the center should be slightly jiggly and will set as it cools) and allow it to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

  • Prebaking the crust for 5-10 minutes will help you avoid a soggy texture, and help you achieve the perfect flaky crust.
  • Instead of adding pecans to the top, you can add them all into the filling if desired.
  • Add some cinnamon, a splash of bourbon, or some chocolate chips for a flavor twist.
  • Pecan pie is best served at room temperature or slightly warmed, with a side of ice cream or topped with whipped cream.

I had always been afraid to try pecan pie and buying it from Costco always seemed so much simpler but wow, my rad kitchen you really taught me a new family favourite recipe, it was delicious!
I was at a friend‘s house and they had the Costco version and I thought to myself I am going to try and make this and boy am. I glad I googled your recipe. 10 out of 10.

I switched up the dessert for Thanksgiving this year and instead of pumpkin pie I made this pecan pie and added some of the chocolate chips as suggested in the notes. One of my new favourites, the hints of chocolate added a whole new level of deliciousness to an already tasty pie!
