Blackberry Simple Syrup

This Blackberry Simple Syrup is a beautifully rich and fruity sweetener that’s perfect for cocktails, mocktails, iced tea, lemonades, and even drizzling over pancakes or desserts. Made with just three simple ingredients, equal parts blackberries, sugar, and water. This syrup delivers a deep, jammy blackberry flavor with just the right amount of sweetness.

Equipment

  • Measuring Cups
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Strainer
  • Airtight Container

Ingredients

  • 200 grams granulated sugar about 1 cup
  • 1 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Bring ingredients to a boil over medium-low heat.
  • Keep a rolling boil for about 15 minutes, stirring periodically. Adjust the heat if needed.
  • Allow it to cool slightly, then strain into a glass jar.

Notes

  • I like to strain it into a glass measuring cup then pour it into the glass jar while straining a second time.
  • Double the sugar content to make a thick simple syrup, also known as rich syrup. This not only gives you an even more concentrated flavor, but it extends the shelf life to up to 6 months in the fridge.
  • When you leave in the fridge it may start to crystallize. You can place the jar in a shallow bowl with, hot water to help break it down the sugar.
