- 160 grams old fashioned oats about 2 cups
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 50 grams brown sugar about ¼ cup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Add all ingredients into a small saucepan and cook over medium heat.
Bring to a low boil then reduce the heat to keep it going, stirring periodically. Cook for about 5 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed.
Transfer to a bowl then taste; add extra maple syrup and a sprinkle of brown sugar if desired for extra sweetness.
- Stir often to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking with a quick stir every minute or so.
- Adjust the amount of sugar or syrup based on your sweetness preference.
- A pinch of salt can enhance the flavor of the oats and balance the sweetness.
- After cooking, let the oatmeal sit for a minute, it will thicken more as it cools.
- If the oatmeal has thickened too much adding a splash of milk or extra maple syrup on top makes a big difference in the texture.
