Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 24 snaps pretzels
  • 12 Rolo chocolates unwrapped
  • 12 Hershey’s hugs unwrapped
  • 12 large candy eyes
  • 24 small candy eyes

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 200F, and line a small baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Arrange the pretzels on the baking sheet and top with either Rolos or Hershey’s hugs.
  • Place in the oven for about 3-5 minutes, just enough to warm up the chocolates.
  • Remove from the oven and allow them to sit for a minute, then add any arrangement of eyeballs to the warmed chocolate pieces and lightly press down. When pressing down on the Rolos, just be careful that some caramel might start to seep out if you press too far.
  • Allow the chocolate to cool, and any dripping caramel to set and enjoy.

Notes

  • Press Gently: A light press is all you need to attach the eyes, especially on the Hugs.
  • Make the Rolo Version Creepier: For the large monster eyes, I like pressing just hard enough to crack the Rolo and let a little caramel escape. It will firm back up as everything cools.
  • Set Them Faster: If you don't want to wait, pop them in the fridge for about 5 minutes to cool them quicker.
  • Don't Overheat: Only soften the chocolates enough to press the candy eyes in.
  • Room Temperature: Once completely set, store the pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Keep them somewhere cool so the chocolate doesn't soften.
  • Refrigerator: Alternatively, keep them in the fridge, but too much moisture can cause the pretzels to soften, I recommend only keeping them about 2 weeks.
  • Make Ahead: These are easy to make a day or two before a Halloween party. Let the chocolate set completely before stacking them in a container, and place parchment paper between the layers.
