Ingredients

This slow cooker recipe comes together quickly with only 9 simple ingredients.

Slow Cooker Spinach and Artichoke Dip Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Frozen Spinach, Thawed: The star of the dish, thawed spinach is easier to use and less work than fresh.
  • Artichoke Hearts: Co-starring with the spinach, this adds a nutty undertone to the dip.
  • Greek Yogurt: Adds some tang to the dip to enhance flavor.
  • Mayonnaise: Adds to the creaminess of the dip and helps with binding all ingredients.

For this easy recipe, you'll want to have on hand a 3-quart slow cooker, measuring cups and a spatula.

Substitutions and Variations

Here are some ideas to mix up this dip to make it the perfect appetizer for you.

  • Greens: Frozen spinach is easiest, but fresh spinach works too. Or swap in finely chopped kale for a different texture.
  • Cheese Variations: Freshly grated parmesan cheese, gruyere or asiago add sharp, nutty flavor. Blend them together for even more depth.
  • Garlic Options: Use garlic powder if you're out of fresh or roast the cloves first for a sweeter, richer flavor.
  • Spicy Kick: Add hot sauce, red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños to bring some heat.
  • Flavor Boosters: Crumbled bacon adds a smoky-salty vibe, while fresh herbs like parsley or dill brighten things up.

How to Make Spinach and Artichoke Dip in Slow Cooker

With little prep and your slow cooker doing the work, you will love how simple it can be for tons of flavor.

Thaw and strain your spinach. I like to let it thaw overnight in a colander with a bowl under, then squeeze it well.

Add all ingredients into the base of a small slow cooker (lightly coated with non-stick spray), with the spinach on the bottom.

Cook for 3-4 hours on LOW, stirring periodically; this ensures everything melts evenly and is well mixed.

Hint: Be sure to thaw your spinach and use a towel to squeeze out as much moisture as possible before adding to the dip; excess liquid will make the dip watery, so don't skip this step.

How to Store Slow Cooker Spinach and Artichoke Dip

If you find yourself with leftovers, not to worry, this dip keeps well.

  • Refrigerator: Once dip is fully cooled, place in an air-tight container and store for 3-4 days.
  • Freezing: Pack individual servings in small airtight containers to allow for the least amount of air inside; this helps prevent freezer burn.
  • Reheating: Thaw in the fridge overnight then bring to room temperature and heat in the microwave until warmed through. Sometimes I make a double batch in a larger slow cooker and freeze it in an oven-safe baking dish to rewarm later.

How long can I keep this warm for a party?

Make sure spinach is well-drained and avoid lifting the lid too often, since condensation can thin the dip.

    1. Since frozen spinach is very fine and very dense I would recommend at least doubling it. Mix it half way and if it doesn’t look like enough, you can always add more. I would recommend chopping it up as best as you can. Alternatively, you can cook it down on the stove first. Let me know how it goes.
