Irish Coffee with Baileys
Hot, creamy and comforting, this Irish Coffee with Baileys is a twist on the traditional, made with Baileys Irish Cream in place of the whiskey. It's a cozy sip for cold mornings and relaxed evenings.

This Baileys Irish coffee gets its creamy flavor from Baileys Irish Cream stirred into hot coffee, with whipped cream spooned on top for a thick, foamy layer. It's made with just three ingredients and suits brunch, an after-dinner treat or St. Patrick's Day.

Ingredients
This cozy cocktail needs just three ingredients.

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.
- Hot Coffee: Choose your preference, from regular coffee and espresso to decaf or instant coffee.
- Baileys Irish Cream: Use your favorite flavor of Baileys, or a homemade Irish cream. For a dairy-free version, use a non-dairy Irish cream liqueur.
- Whipping Cream or Heavy Cream: A traditional Irish coffee pours heavy cream slowly over the top, but this version whips it for a thick, foamy layer. For a dairy-free topping, use coconut cream.
All you need is a medium mixing bowl, hand mixer, (or a stand mixer) measuring cup, and a shot glass.
Variations
- Make It Iced: For a cold version, use cold brew over ice.
- Sweetness Boost: Add a teaspoon of simple syrup, brown sugar or maple syrup for extra sweetness.
- Extra Boozy: Swap the Baileys for Irish whiskey, or use both for a stronger cocktail.
- Flavored Whipped Cream: Mix a dash of vanilla or cinnamon into the whipped cream for extra flavor.
How to Make Irish Coffee with Baileys
Making this Irish Coffee with Baileys takes just 3 simple steps.

Whip heavy cream in a bowl until soft peaks and set aside.
Brew a hot coffee in your favorite cup and pour in 1 ounce of Baileys Irish cream (2 if your coffee is on the stronger side).
Stir well to combine, then carefully spoon whipped cream on top.
Hint: Start with your favorite strong coffee, the better the brew, the better the drink.

Recipe Tips
- Glass: Pre-warm your mug with hot water to keep the coffee hot longer.
- Garnishes: Chocolate shavings, caramel sauce, nutmeg or a cinnamon stick make a great finishing touch.
- Make It a Mocktail: For a non-alcoholic version, use an Irish cream-flavored coffee creamer in place of the Baileys.
For something classic and less creamy, try our Espresso Irish Coffee made with Jameson Irish whiskey.

Irish Coffee with Baileys Recipe FAQs
A true Irish coffee is made with Irish whiskey, not Baileys. This version uses Baileys in place of the whiskey, and you can add both for a stronger drink.
You can call it Irish Coffee with Baileys, but we often call it a Baileys Irish Coffee: hot coffee with Baileys Irish Cream, topped with whipped cream.
If whipped to soft peaks, it will float on top of the coffee.
Use 6 ounces of coffee to 1 to 2 ounces of Baileys, depending on how strong your coffee is. A stronger brew can handle the larger pour of Baileys.
