Why You Will Love This Love Potion Cocktail

  • Easy: Just pour, shake and strain. It is that simple.
  • Common Ingredients: You can find these ingredients readily at a nearby store, or may even have them in your house.
  • Taste: Fresh tasting cocktail that has a balance of citrus, sweet and tart flavors.
  • Fun and Festive: Perfect for Valentine's Day!
  • Versatile: There are so many substitutions and variations to put your own spin on this cocktail - see our list of suggestions below.

Ingredients

A short quick to the store to grab the essentials and you are on your way to shaking up a delicious, fresh and festive cocktail.

Love Potion Cocktail Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Cranberry Juice: To provide a tart profile and a red color.
  • Vodka: To give it that boozy kick without changing the flavor.
  • Orange Juice: Incorporates a little citrus flavor.
  • Grenadine: To add a little sweetness.
  • Sugar: Used to garnish the rim of your glass, if desired.

For this recipe, you'll want to have on hand measuring cups and spoons and a cocktail shaker.

Substitutions and Variations

There are so many variations on this drink. I chose my favorites, but you can mix it up to make yours!

  • Non-Alcoholic: Skip the vodka and top off with club soda!
  • Grapefruit Juice: If you like a more citrus flavored beverage use grapefruit juice instead of cranberry.
  • Pomegranate Juice: Offers a nice balance between sweet and tart profiles.
  • Cherry Juice: For an even more intense tart flavored cocktail.
  • Grape Juice: Try grape for a sweeter cocktail.
  • Raspberry Liqueur: Instead of grenadine and to incorporate an extra boozy punch.
  • Simple Syrup: To add some sweeteners or in replace of grenadine.

If rimming your glasses, add sugar to a shallow plate, and pour some grenadine on another. Dip your glasses in the liquid, then sugar, and set aside.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and pour in cranberry juice, vodka, orange juice, and grenadine and shake well.

Strain into 4 glasses, and garnish with cherries.

Hint: For a sweeter cocktail add more grenadine.

How to Store Love Potion Cocktail

With cocktails, we prefer to make them fresh, but if you have leftovers you can certainly keep them for a little.

  • Refrigerator: Place in an airtight container and consume within for 3-4 days. I prefer to use mason jars, for a lid with a tight seal, ensuring the most freshness.

What to Serve with Love Potion Cocktail

  • Chocolate Covered Strawberries: A light and sweet snack.
  • Chocolate Desserts: Try our Cookies from Devils Food Cake Mix for a soft chocolatey treat, or our Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownie Bars.
  • Cheesecakes: A classic cheesecake offers a light and smooth pairing for this beverage.
  • Charcuterie or Cheese Plate: Charcuterie with your favorite creamy cheeses, cured meats, crackers, and fruit will be a delicious complement to this fresh cocktail.
  • Red Velvet Desserts: Keeping on the theme, Red Velvet Cupcakes or cakes are a great match to this drink.
  • Lemon Forward Recipes: Lemon Loaf is an excellent marriage of flavors.
  • Cranberry Muffins: Try our recipe for Cranberry Sauce Muffins or Lemon Cranberry Muffins as a sweet little snack and to double down on the cranberry flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions About Love Potion Cocktail

Do you have questions about making a Love Potion Cocktail?

Can I make this a mocktail?

Absolutely. For an equally delicious non-alcoholic version, swap out vodka for club soda or sparkling water.

How can I adjust the sweetness of this cocktail?

Adjust the sweetness to your liking by adjusting the amount of grenadine in the recipe.

Can this drink be made in advance?

We recommend serving cocktails right away for the freshest result, but if you would like to make this in advance, mix up your juices and grenadine, and chill in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When it comes time to serve your drinks, add the vodka and garnishes.
