Ingredients
This recipe uses just a few simple ingredients to highlight the natural flavor of fresh watermelon.

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.
- Seedless Watermelon: The star of the drink, providing natural sweetness and a juicy base.
- Cold Water: Helps thin the watermelon juice into a smooth, drinkable consistency.
- Fresh Lime Juice: Adds brightness and balances the sweetness of the watermelon.
- Honey: Enhances the natural sweetness while keeping the drink smooth and well balanced (agave syrup can be used for a more traditional profile).
All you need is a high powered blender, large pitcher and some measuring cups and spoons.
Variations
- Mint Version: Blend in a few mint leaves or let them sit in the pitcher as the drink chills, then remove before serving.
- Less Sweet Option: Adjust the honey if your watermelon is very ripe and naturally sweet.
- Coconut Twist: Swap some of the water for coconut water for a slightly tropical flavor.
- Salted Finish: Enhance the sweetness and bring out the fresh fruit flavor with a pinch of salt.
- Extra Citrus: Add more lime juice if you prefer a more tangy, citrus-forward drink.

Working in batches, to a blender add watermelon, water, lime juice and honey, and blend on high speed until smooth and well mixed.
Pour through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher to remove some pulp.
Taste and add more water or honey as desired.
Serve with plenty of ice cubes.
Hint: Blend well so the watermelon fully breaks down as much as you can, then strain out any or as much pulp as you want.

Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe FAQs
Not at all. It is totally preferential based on texture. Straight from the blender you can taste it and decide before pouring into a pitcher.
This is a loaded question! Typically, a ripe watermelon that feels heavy for its size and has a deep, uniform color is one way to tell if it will be good or not. But there are a lot of factors that can influence it! Some grocery stores will cut them in half before you buy, so be sure to ask if yours does.
It really depends on the watermelon's natural sweetness, but typically, not overly. If you find it too sweet after it is made, you can add more water, and vise versa, you can add more honey or sweetener of your choosing.
