Ingredients

Just a few items needed from your local grocery store to make this easy pork slider recipe.

Pulled Pork Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the exact quantities of each ingredient.

  • Hawaiian Sweet Rolls: Soft Hawaiian rolls are sweet and buttery, and the star of this recipe, but any slider buns will work.
  • BBQ Pulled Pork: Any type of leftover pulled pork will work for these sliders. We used our slow cooker BBQ pulled pork recipe with root beer.
  • BBQ Sauce: We love using Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce, but you can use your favorite.
  • Coleslaw: Adds a crunch and creaminess to balance the flavor and texture of the meat and soft bun. We used our homemade creamy coleslaw recipe.

For this recipe, you'll want to have on hand measuring cups and a platter for serving.

Substitutions and Variations

Love this recipe but want to make it your own? Here are some helpful ideas for you to change up these sliders on Hawaiian sweet rolls.

  • Shredded Chicken or Beef: If you're out of pulled pork, shredded chicken or slow-cooked beef works great.
  • BBQ Sauce Swap: Change up the flavor of barbecue sauce with a different type like teriyaki.
  • Favorite Toppings: The options are limitless. Try pickled red onions, sliced jalapeños, slices of cheese, Dijon mustard.
  • Serving Options: Instead of Hawaiian buns you need a different bread option you can use a brioche bun or hamburger bun.
  • Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free slider buns to make it celiac-friendly.

How to Make BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

Check out how quick and easy it is to put together these pulled pork sliders on Hawaiian rolls.

Assemble sliders with about 2 tablespoons of pulled pork on the bottom buns. Then add 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce on top of the pulled pork and another 2 tablespoons of creamy coleslaw.

Add the top bun and enjoy. Alternatively, assemble the pork sandwiches on a baking sheet, and brush the top of the rolls with melted butter, cover them in aluminum foil and toast them until golden brown in the oven for 15 minutes at 350F.

Hint: Use a fresh Hawaiian roll, they are soft, sweet, and hold the fillings well without getting soggy. You can also toast them lightly before filling for a little added structure and crunch!

How to Store Pulled Pork Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

This is such an easy recipe to make, but here are some ways to help you store it.

  • Refrigerator: The buns will start to get soggy the longer they sit, so it is best to assemble them at the time of serving. If you have leftovers and want to leave them on a bun, once cooled, place in airtight containers for 2-3 days. This will affect the texture though. It is best to store the meat separately from the buns for the best flavor and texture.
  • Freezer: Like above, freeze the meat separately in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before assembly.
  • Reheating: Heat the meat up on the stovetop or gradually in a microwave and then make your sliders before serving.
  • Make Ahead: You want to assemble these sliders before eating to ensure the buns are the freshest. The pulled pork and coleslaw can be made in advance and stored until needed. See storage instructions for those recipes.

What to Serve with BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

  • Baked Mac and Cheese: Creamy and cheesy, a perfect comfort food pairing.
  • Cornbread: Sweet, buttery, and a Southern classic. Check out our recipe for cornbread without buttermilk.
  • French Fries: For a delicious contrast of textures and flavors try a sweet potato fry or our air fryer cubes.
  • Chips: A crisp, salty potato chip is a great option for a contrasty side.
  • Grilled Corn on the Cob: Smoky, charred, and lightly buttery.
  • Coleslaw: Serve extra on the side for a refreshing crunch.
  • Classic Lemonade or Caramel Mocha Coffee: Great drink pairings for casual or sweet cravings.
  • Chocolate Desserts: A simple dessert to round out the meal like our cake brownies from brownie mix, chocolate chip brownie bars or our Devil’s food cake mix cookies.
  • Mini Cheese Balls: Bite-sized appetizers are a creamy perfect pairing.

Top Tips

Here are some ways to ensure you get the best results when making of this easy recipe.

  • Warm the Pulled Pork: If you aren't making the pork fresh, reheat the pulled pork on the stovetop before assembling to enhance the flavors.
  • Toast the Rolls (Optional): Lightly toasting the buns until golden brown before or after adds a nice crunch and prevents sogginess.
  • Make It a Meal: Serve with a side of fries, a fresh salad, mac and cheese or alongside other small bites for a complete plate.
  • Prep in Advance: You can pre-portion the pulled pork and coleslaw to assemble quickly for parties.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pulled Pork Sliders on Hawaiian Rolls

Do you have questions about making BBQ pulled pork sliders on Hawaiian rolls?

What is the best type of BBQ sauce to use?

A smoky, slightly sweet BBQ sauce works best, but you can use your favorite brand or even a homemade version.

How do I keep the slider buns from becoming soggy?

To avoid soggy buns, it’s a good idea to toast the rolls before assembling your sliders. You can brush them with a little butter and toast them in the oven or on a skillet. You can also serve the pulled pork on the side for guests to assemble their sliders themselves, if you are serving for a party.

Can I use store-bought pulled pork?

Absolutely! If you are short on time, pre-packages pulled for works great. Just heat it up before assembling.

What toppings should I add to the sliders?

Toppings are optional but can add texture and flavor! Other than our coleslaw and BBQ sauce, other great options are pickles and onions. You can also try adding cheese like cheddar or provolone for an extra layer of flavor.
